Stylist, Coomera resident and Just Cuts salon owner Courtney Currie is supporting her community and raising funds to support families facing blood cancer as part of World’s Greatest Shave.

Courtney has been a Stylist since she was 16, and celebrates two decades as a hairdresser this year, employing 25 Stylists and owning 3 Just Cuts salons at Mt Ommaney, Burleigh Heads and Coomera.

Courtney organised major weekend events at both  Mt Ommaney and Westfield Coomera to raise money and awareness to support Australians living with Blood Cancer.

“The community support has been amazing,” said Courtney. “We had one woman donate her hair and then return a second time to completely shave her head because her grandma had leukaemia. Just Cuts Stylist Tonisha Milkovic lost her father to cancer and her partner also lost his father to cancer, just 2 months apart. We know it takes a village to support someone battling cancer.”

“A big thank you to Celebrity Ink Coomera, Unicorn Piercing Professionals Coomera, Supplement Kingdom Coomera, Boost Juice Coomera, Iplay and Justice Haircare. Also thanks to Boost Juice Mt Ommaney, Snap Fitness Mt Ommaney and Tranquility Beauty Salon Mt Ommaney for their donations of vouchers and samples for supporting my fundraising events.”

Courtney also thanked everyone who got up on stage to shave or colour their hair.

“Each of them has helped us raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia Foundation who work tirelessly to support those with blood cancer as well as their families.”

Courtney faced a challenge of her own when she attended the sold-out Brisbane Lions game at the Gabba and shaved a volunteer from the Leukaemia Foundation in front of a crowd of 40,000 people.

“Even though I work in front of people I had stage fright,” said Courtney. “But I remembered why I’m doing this. It’s a great cause that means a lot to my local community, and to me.”

Just Cuts is proud to be a major partner in supporting the Leukaemia Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of every Australian facing blood cancer through the World’s Greatest Shave.

There are more people diagnosed with blood cancer now than ever before, with the incidence of blood cancer soaring by 47% in Australia over the past decade. Unlike many other cancers, there are no screening programs available for blood cancer, and there is no way to prevent blood cancer.

More than 140,000 people are living with blood cancer or a related blood disorder in Australia today, and Australia loses 16 people to blood cancer every day.

Sign-ups for the World's Greatest Shave are available for individuals and teams from anywhere in Australia at worldsgreatestshave.com or by calling 1800 500 088.

Just Cuts will also be a major partner of World’s Greatest Shave in 2025.
