Bathurst has come out in force to support Just Cuts’ Cut-a-Rama, with this year’s event raising $27,300 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in just a few hours.

Just Cuts’ stylists have now snipped, buzzed, and styled their way to raising more than $580,000 for the RFDS since 1998 after the success in this year’s Cut-a-Rama at the Family Hotel Bathurst on 29 May.

Just Cuts Bathurst Owner Catherine Denney thanked everyone who came to the Cut-a-Rama for a fun night in aid of a good cause and said she was blown away by people’s generosity.

“The Just Cuts Bathurst team loved being involved in this year’s Cut-A-Rama event. We met some great characters who opted for some weird and whacky hair styles to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service,’’ Catherine said.

“A couple of highlights were a green lizard shaved into one fella’s hair, a mohawk complete with pink goatee and shaving off a moustache that its owner had had for more than 30 years! It was a terrific evening, and everyone really got into the spirit of the event.’’

After just finishing refurbishing her Bathurst salon, Catherine said the Cut-a-Rama had further reinforced Just Cuts’ connection with the local community.

Kathy Robinson who owns the Just Cuts franchises at Balgowlah and Warriewood in Sydney’s north, came to Cut-a-Rama with one stylist, Belinda, who volunteered her time and had a great night.

“It was a fabulous night with a great buzz of excitement in the air,’’ Kathy said.

“All the Trekkers were pumped and ready for the Outback Trek and Cut-a-Rama was a highlight.’’

Kathy thanked the people of Bathurst for their tremendous community spirit.

“They are all very generous and it’s not too hard to get the donations flowing. A lot of them let their hair grow leading up to the Trek just so they can get a crazy style at Cut-a-Rama!’’

Just Cuts Founder Denis McFadden, attending his 27th Cut-a-Rama, thanked the people of Bathurst for supporting a good cause.

“With 200 salons across Australia, we have deep ties to regional communities, we know how essential the Royal Flying Doctor Service is. Supporting this work means supporting the communities we’re proud to be part of,” Denis said.

“Cut-a-Rama is one of my favourite events of the year- it’s joyful, a little wild, and full of heart. It brings together our incredible Stylists, trek participants, and locals all rallying behind a cause that truly saves lives.’’

The annual Outback Car Trek is run to raise awareness of the disadvantages regional Australians face when trying to access basic medical treatment.

The RFDS, which provides 24-hour aeromedical emergency services to country Australia, is the only provider of health care services in many locations, taking the place of ‘local’ doctors.

“People in these communities can live hours from medical care,’’ Denis said. “The doctors that work for the RFDS are the GPs of regional Australia, with a waiting room that spans millions of kilometres.

“The RFDS can be a lifesaver for people in remote locations. People can call them for anything from falling off a horse, or injuring themselves on farm equipment, to a medical episode. The RFDS can provide advice over the phone or come and provide assistance.’’

More about Just Cuts:
Just for you. Since 1982.

In 1982, Denis McFadden had to wait three months to vacate a lease he no longer needed, as he had already moved his Sydney salon business. To keep things simple, he decided to hold a promotion offering a “no-appointment” $7 Style Cut for all Clients.

The response was outstanding, and that day marked the moment the Just Cuts brand was born.

Just Cuts is an Australian hairdressing franchise that bridges the gap between a barber and a high-end hair salon. With Salons in every state of Australia, on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand and within the United Kingdom, it is the largest hairdressing company from the Southern Hemisphere.

Based on a fixed-price, no-appointment system, Just Cuts offers Clients affordable haircuts from fully qualified hairdressers and performs over 100,000 Style Cuts per week across the globe.
